Hello Gandhi Collectors,
Don't think 1911 Aerial Post mail with special cancellation is RARE. Check my previous blog about aerial post and you will be amazed that in past 2 months on eBay I have seen more than 20+ on sale!! and almost all of them got sold.!! at very high price.!! (My Gandhi stamp collection experience tells me there might something flaky going on!!)
Even after 101+ years this many quantity available in open public auction site.!!
Also even if following is Genuine cover, I don't think $1860 is correct value for this cover with special cancellation because lot of factors needs to be consider before it is valued. But main thing is Stamp collection HOBBY is in DECLINE and world economy is also not doing good since last 5 years!! so I am not sure where the money is coming or it's just artifical inflated price.!!
This might be GLORIFICATION of "First Aerial Post"!!

Read my following blog post to understand about stamp collection in DECLINE.!! and think why someone will pay $1860 for this kind of philatelic material which is hard to believe that it's indeed GENUINE.
1) A Hobby in Decline : 1948 Gandhi USED cover case study.!!
2) A Hobby in Decline.!! - Part-2
3) How to invest when philately price is dropping.
Following are 2 blog post which explain similarity between 1948 India Gandhi Philatelic material with 1911 First Aerial Post with British India stamp.
1) FAKE cancellation of First Aerial Post (It's easy to make Rubber stamp & buy INK !!)
In this blog post I am comparing with total postage requirement for register mail. But let me tell you that no expertizing society such as BPA or RPS is going to provide certificate for cancellation(rubber stamp).!!
They will only provide for stamp whether it is Genuine or Fake, but not to the special cancellation. My guess for why they only provide for stamps not for rubber stamp cancellation is because it's very easy to make and no one will take guarantee for this.!!
Above cover is mailed to Dublin (England) has only 8 annas stamp of King Edward VII. I am not sure how much postage was required in 1911 but looking to following aerial post exhibit it looks like 8 annas was required for registration only + postage depending on destination.
So I am not sure whether above cover has valid postage. Also above cover needed extra postage as it was mailed to Europe.
Whereas following screenshot indicates it required one anna postage was required for local mailing address (Jubbulpore now Jabalpur) and 8 annas for registration charges.
According to me this needs to have some kind of "POSTAGE DUE" stamp or should have sufficient postage since start as it is Register mail which requires human interaction and cannot be dropped in any mail box.!! So I am not sure whether this can be consider GENUINE or ERROR or it's just Forgery.!!
But I had seen this kind of activity in Gandhi Philately so I am not surprised at all.!! Which indicates that there is lot of similarities between Gandhi Stamps (India Stamps) and Philatelic materials.
Following is example of Gandhi 1948 philatelic material with incomplete postage stamps.

DON'T YOU THINK SIMILARITIES BETWEEN GANDHI PHILATELY AND BRITISH INDIA STAMPS AND PHILATLEY.!!
I think so.!!

Did you notice difference between this 2 covers ? (hint : registration rubber stamp).!! This is for you to research. Also there are more differences.!!
I am not expert on British India stamps and philately but using just common sense with easily available information. Let me know if I am wrong in postage calculation as I am completely dependent on available exhibit.!! Very interesting exhibit to read.
Need to do lot of research before you buy this kind of philatelic material.
Following are screenshot taken from eBay which is widely available (anyone can see feedback, seller name, ebay item # etc) to general public which will explain detail about this everything related to transaction including price, seller, buyer and bidders. (This is like looking to complete transaction on delcampe).
Date of sale:- Jun 05, 2012
Happy Seller :- gumpa (Poland)
Proud Buyer :- drpokiri
Price :- $1860
Item # :- 261034440697
# of bids :- 18
# of bidders :- 12
Do you think this is really worth for $1860!!!!!!!!!! when whole world is running away from this kind of hobby.!! or something else what we use to see same way we always looks (shill bidding, false inflated price or ?) in Gandhi Stamps and Philately material.!!
Do you really think eBay got comission on this sale.? (It's about $150 if PayPal is also counted.!!)
But who cares. !! eBay shareholder is making money on commission from this kind of sale including PayPal. (disclosure: I own eBay shares/stock in my retirement account.!!)

All information is collected from eBay which is/was openly available to everyone like you get it on delcampe auction site. Nothing to hide if it's legal.!! and be proud of collection.
So when the price is high (expensive) it needs to be make sure that you are not getting any facsimile, fake cancellation or getting ripped off by shill bidding same way it's happening in Gandhi Stamps and Philatelic material.
Please read following series of my blog post to understand what is going on stamp collecting world specially in Indian Philatelic materials.
1) 1948 Stamps False hope of Riches?
2) 1948 Gandhi Stamps: Are False hope of Riches - Part II ?
3) 1948 Gandhi Mourning Private FDC : Are False hope of Riches - Part III?
4) 1948 Expensive Gandhi FDC : Are False hope of Riches - Part IV?
5) 1948 Gandhi Stamps Early Usage cover : Gandhi Stamps Are False hope of Riches - Part V?
6) Maxi Card sold for $5100 with 1948 Gandhi Stamps - False hope of Riches - Part VI?
7) Indian Philately Exposed
8) Indian Philately Exposed - Part II
9) First Aerial Post - Indian Philately Exposed - Part III
10) 1911 First Aerial Post - Allahabad - Indian Philately Exposed - Part IV
So this is the 3rd case were we can see lot of similarity between Gandhi Philately and other British India stamps and philately specially in First Aerial Post !!
Thanks
