Expensive Stamp !!! Is this Gandhi SERVICE stamp really worth $225,000 ? Do you think Gandhi Stamps and Philately is good for eBay Shareholders ? Part - II

Hello Gandhi Collector,

(Rewriting this blog again with more updated info).

From Wikipedia : A set of stamps over-printed as "Service" was issued to the Government of India for official purposes. Only 100 Mahatama Gandhi 10 Rs. stamps were overprinted with "Service" and issued for the use of C. Rajagopalachari, the Governor General of India, making it the world's least printed stamp. Of the hundred stamps that were overprinted with "Service", a few were gifted to dignitaries, while most remain at the National Archives, Postal Museums, etc. The recent book by Dr. Reuben Ramkissoon and Dr. Rajagopalan reports that less than 8 copies of the Gandhi 10 Rs Service stamps reside in private hands. Forgeries of the overprint are known. (click to read more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_10_Rupees_Mahatma_Gandhi_postage_stamp)

In June 2010 Gandhi 10 Rupees SERVICE overprint stamp was  selling for $225,000 from San Francisco, California by "tappalman" (as of 6/26/12 eBay id don't exist.!!!).

Looking to all Facsmile/Copy available in 2012for this kind of 1948 SERVICE stamp how we can trust this is indeed Genuine stamp. To read more about FAKE Gandhi Stamps read following blog post for more awareness.

1) 1948 Gandhi Facsimile stamp
2) Maryland Forgery
3) How can you tell Gandhi SERVICE stamp is FAKE or Genuine.?
4) FAKE 10 Rs. SERVICE stamp price $1009 to $1 in just 4 months?

Following is FAKE/Forgery/Facismile/Copy of this stamp available. How we can trust above is indeed Genuine stamps.

Yes seller is providing certification for this stamp, but don't know why all important information is blacked out.

To me it looks like FORGED expertizing certificate so want to even hide certificate #, meeting date, signature, submitted by.

Or to me it look like REUSE of expertising certificate.

Don't understand why to hide if it is  Genuine.?  Should be proud owner and ready to pay all government taxes and commission to ebay after the sale.!! Cannot hide anything when you sell in public internet.

Also I read that FAKE/Forged Certification (it's only piece of paper) are available all the time. It's not that hard to print if Fake Currency can be printed and even FAKE id or Passport is also made.!!

So don't you think that this 1948 stamps can be forged easily.

Nepal Indian Embassy Mahatma Gandhi 1948 Cover (FDC) with 1.5 Anna Gandhi stamp

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Today is 15th August which is Independence Day of India.  This day was not possible without  Mahatma Gandhi who sacrificed his life to achieve this for all Indians.

I am rewriting this blog post which I published on May 16, 2011 as this blog post is related to 15th August 1948.

(Gandhi Collectors who don't have this cover or New collectors DON'T BUY Nepal India Indian Embassy Mahatma Gandhi 1948 cover (FDC) with 1.5 Anna stamp UNTIL YOU have research in detail about each and everything about this cover. I don't question postmark cancel from embassy but I questioned about this covers with 1.5 Anna stamp )

Think how 1948 Gandhi stamp reach to Nepal Embassy on First Day of issue.? There are lot of other cities which did not received this stamps whose people are more in philatelic.!!! How many of us have seen any kind of First day CDS from AHMEDABAD or Baroda or Rajkot.!!

BTW: Looks like seller is making his living in Nepal on all of us (USA, Germany, Norway etc). NEPAL 2010 GDP is $562. This seller already made more than 2000 dollars in just 2 years by selling this dirty cover which looks like commericial used without receiving postmark cancel. This is all because of us who bought this cover including myself.

I am not sure what are we all trying to prove here.

Last month Nepal India Indian Embassy Gandhi 1948 commemorative small value 1.5 Anna stamp on cover from Indian Embassy (Nepal) with comet postmark 15 Aug 1948 was sold for $158. Unbeliveable price.!!

BUYER is :

Second Offer buyer is:

Both buyer paid $155+ are from India(If nothing is FAKE!! This is Gandhi Philately.!!). Looks like India is really booming.!!

In last 2 years I saw around 10-12 similar FDC sold on ebay by only one seller "himphinu" from Nepal.

I bought this for $81 (including shipping) in June 2009, So comparing this with selling price of $158 my purchase is appreciating by 90-100% in 2 years. Not bad at all in this kind of economy where nothing is certain except Gandhi Philately.!!

As you know I do research on Gandhi philatelic items so I bid on some of Gandhi items again and again and because of this I got two second offer from this seller.!!!

In March 2010 I got second chance offer for $39 & in April 2011 I got it for $106. What a difference!!!!!!

(Second Chance Offer on Gandhi Philatelic material is another interesting Research topic on which I am working on.!!)

Looks interesting.!! Reason for getting this second offer is that seller don't know that I bidded with different id.!! Yes I do have multipe id.!!

Following screenshot will show you who made seller super RICH by buying this cover/FDC at what price and you will see some great Gandhi collectors and some questionable collectors!!!

Also some feedbacks are missing both by sellers and buyer.!! Also looks like some buyers are questionable.!!

Some of the covers sold for 200+ dollars are for 3 covers with 3 different Gandhi 1948 stamps.

After all this research for 2+ years on this FDC I think I & other paid very high price for this cover without knowing indepth details about this cover. Also there is no place to look about this.!!

I need help in following questions to find more details about this cover. If you know please comments on this blog post.

1) How many total FDC was issued from Indian Embassy Nepal??
2) Why only one person has this in lot? (this is not private comet postmark so there should be more).
3) Do anyone has proof that this are GENUINE cover?
4) Any record from Indian Goverment or Indian Embassy about this cover or Hira Singh?
5) Do anyone has this cover with 10 Rupees Stamps as I never saw one? Why? (It's embassy so there will be rich collector even 1948.!!)
6) Anyone has seen this cover with shipping address to other countries with CDS in back side?
7) Anyone has seen this cover with receving postmark cancel (CDS) in back from Nepal(receiving cds) ?
8) Any Register cover?

I think it makes more sense to buy  Philatelic material from Collector who has his name & address on the philatelic material because his/her name is involved in that kind of special cover/postcard etc. If we know who is Hira Singh then we can have little proof about it and we can get in confidence.

I had seen commerically used cover to USA with multiple stamps and embassy cancellation. So no issue with embassy cancellation. Only issue is cover without CDS in back and mailed to other countries and who is the creator of this.!!

Gandhi Collectors who don't have this or New collectors DON'T BUY THIS UNTIL YOU GET SUFFICIENT INFORMATION OF ABOVE QUESTIONS.

If you still need this cover then let me know I will give my cover which I purchased from same person to you at reasonable price (no profit no loss) so I can get rid from my collection and have peace of mind.!!

BTW: Similiar is the case of Pondicherry FDC so keep your EYES open and Paypal closed.!!!

Amazing price of 1995 Mahatma Gandhi India Souvenir Sheet.

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Recently I read that one seller listed his book to sell on amazon.com for 23 million dollar!! This was for sale by private seller (same like ebay). Read more about this by clicking following link from PC Magazine.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2384102,00.asp

http://www.michaeleisen.org/blog/?p=358

I am seeing similiar pattern in Mahatma Gandhi stamp from India price selling on ebay, not because of any algorithm but by human brain.

Here they are looking for some NEW International buyer(as all Indian collector will know price about this) who is not aware of real price or current value of that Mahatma Gandhi stamp from India and seller thinks that some one will buy it by mistake.!! & then regert their whole life when it is selling for much lower value.!

In 1995 India & South Africa jointly issued Mahatma Gandhi Souvenir Sheet of Indian Rupees 8 which is equivalent to 20-30 cents. (Yes 0.20 US cents). This Souvenir sheet design shows simplicity of Mahatma Gandhi with all his belongings and his famous Dandi March picture. I also think India post issued very large quantity of this Souvenir Sheet so this is not rare.

Currently this stamp is sold between 4-7 dollars which is also on very high price(it's more than 500% ROI in 16 years) and if this rate is continue then it will surpass value of 1948 Gandhi stamps even though there are more Gandhi collectors and dealers in India than it was in 1948.

I think because of low face value( 8 Indian Rupees or 20-30 cents) of this Souvenir Sheet, it was accumulated by certain group of people and because of them we are even paying 4-7 dollars. I don't think this will happen in 2011 Mahatma Gandhi Indipex Khadi Souvenir stamp sheet from India because of high face value of Rupees 250 (5-6$) so it will be hard for dealer to keep high priced item.

But I was more suprised when I saw same sheet selling price is $26. !!! All credit to goes to seller "rajsukhani" for making this possible for stamp of India.

Yes it is $26 + $5.50 = $31.50!!

Also if you see this listing description of the stamp is also incorrect. It is 1992 instead of 1995.

If this souvenir sheet is used with some special postcard or unique used cover to embassy or redcross or united nations etc. than price of $26 or more is justified but this is just stamp sheet which is only 16 years old.!!I would rather pay $20 for Mauritius Register cover (if it is GENUINE) with 6 stamps on it than buying this souvenir sheet as there is lot of work to make that used cover.

But in this case it is just large quantity printed souvenir sheet and seller wants to get profit without doing any work to make cover or postcard etc.

Another example of 1995 SS when it was UNSOLD for 22.22$.

I am not sure whether stamp sellers/dealer thinks that stamp collectors are stupid.!! They just pray that someone will fall in their trap.

But this is seller choice how much they want to sell their item for so no offsense without any alograthim like Amazon book price. It's good that seller is giving option of Buy It Now only instead of auction and then starts increasing price with his/her other ebay id.(Shill Bidding).

But Gandhi Collectors, Do you think this souvenir sheet is worth $26?

It's 8500% return on investment. (0.30 cents invested in 1995 & today's current value $26)

In future we all might see something similar to that amazon book price and this sheet might be on sale for 26 million dollar.!! (if no listing fees is on ebay).

Thanks
KP.

BTW: Because of Low initial value (Rupees 8) some one can afford to buy a very huge quantity and can sell them at high price. I think Indian Goverment Post notice this and issued 2011 Indipex Mahatma Gandhi Souvenir sheet at very high value (Rupees 250) so it will be easily available to collectors and reduce profit margin for some dealers and reseller. Because of this high initial facevalue it will not appreciate same way like 1995 SS.

Update 12/27/11 :

2 sheets were sold for $3.75.!! (but still huge return compare to original price of  20-30 cents (0.30 dollar) with face value of Rupees 10 in 1995.

What is Gandhi Boycott Label.?

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

The Swadeshi movement, part of the Indian independence movement, was a successful economic strategy to remove the British Empire from power and improve economic conditions in India through following principles of swadeshi (self-sufficiency). Strategies of the swadeshi movement involved boycotting British products and the revival of domestic-made products and production techniques.

Swadeshi Movement emanated from the partition of Bengal, 1905 and continued up to 1908. It was the most successful of the pre-Gandhian movements. Chief architects were Aurobindo Ghosh, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai. Swadeshi, as a strategy, was a key focus of Mahatma Gandhi who described it as the soul of Swaraj (self rule). However there is no corroborative evidence to support that Swadeshi was successful at punishing the British.

I don't have this Gandhi label because it never appealed me to add in my collection as I think it can be printed any time as there are no law to prevent this from reprinting and also no authority to monitor this as it is a LABEL.!!

So I am not sure why collectors are buying it for 5-15$. Sometimes it goes upto 50+ dollars.!!!

I think it will be very hard to find original as it has been almost 80+ years and during that time it's main purpose was to use it on mail to oppose British and spread the message. Also there were very less collector during that time and also paper quality & local printing quality cannot sustain weather and all other condition required to keep this kind of material in good condition. Another thing is that people were even afraid to keep this kind of label with them as they were feared from Britisher.!!

Recently this kind of label was sold for $41 and only single bidder for this item. Don't know why paying $41 for this PIECE OF PAPER.

Also one more thing I noticed is initial starting price of auction was $41.!!! Not sure why so high.!!

If it is high price than seller has no confidence about his item.!! but this will stop shill bidding.!!

Seller: London-stamps from UK.
Buyer: Coolblue1955 from India
Sale: $41
Date: 4/17/2011

My advice will be stay away from this PIECE OF PAPER or Label or Cinderella.!!!

Or look for some genuine seller who will mention that this is Cindrella and price will be cheap. Following screen shot is from ebay where seller mentioned about this and selling under 6-7$.

If you have any more information than please write a comment so everyone can read it.

Thanks
Gandhi Stamps Club

BTW:- There are some more available which does not make sense to add in collection. so avoid Gandhi label all together. Genuine label are very rare and REPRINT are available same way like Azad HIND Fauj.

Read and compare my following blog post about  BOGUS FORGED Gandhi stamps and philatelic cancellation with rubber stamp applied on piece of paper or envelope and trying to MAKE huge money instead of selling just MINT stamps or making BOGUS or Forgery philatelic material, which are sold from $100 -$1000. Also some are selling for more than $15000+!!!

Sri Lanka Gandhi Stamp : Don't know what's going on with Srilanka Gandhi stamp.

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

In 1988 Srilanka issued Mahatma Gandhi stamp.

Mahatma Gandhi travelled from India to Ceylon arriving in Colombo, the capital city on November 12, 1927 and stayed there for 3 weeks . He accompanied by his wife Kasturba, C. Rajagopalachari(who was using 10 Rupees Gandhi Service stamp as first Governor General of India in 1948) and Lakshmi Rajagopalachari(daughter-in-law of Gandhiji)in Ceylon. His visit caused great excitement. The people of Ceylon were calling for greater independence from the British who had ruled the country since 1815 having taken over the island from the Dutch.

Now let's see what's going with Srilanka Gandhi stamp. Even though it is issued in 1988 it is not available easily. My guess it is hidden in someone's closet.!!

Recently on ebay there were 2 auction of Srilanka Gandhi stamp. One is single MNH sold for $41 and other with MNH block of 2 sold for $22(11$ per stamp. Even though Srilanka Gandhi stamp is 0.75 rupees it is appreciating lot in 25 years.!!

Can't believe what happen. Is it real that price decline by 400% in just 10 days or something else!! Following are screenshot can you look at it.

Seller:- stampgal-sfb from USA
Buyer:- shukla_nawab from India
# of bids: 14
Date Sold:- 03/29/2011
Sold for:- $41

Seller:- abikutti123(2412) from India
Buyer:- UNKNOWN (because of Private listing) (why private listing???)
# of bid:- 3
Date Sold:- 04/09/2011
Sold for:- $21.50

Looks like it is very hard to find a right price for Gandhi stamps as it varies who is selling it.

Buyers need to be aware that they don't need to pay high price for artifically inflated price for common stamps or FDC.

Think twice before jumping in Gandhi Philatelic and if you are already in(like me) then think twice before you bid.!!!

Again thanks for reading this blog post and  Please share your thoughts in the comments section.

Update : - On December 2011 it was sold for 3 Euros ($4).!!

How to protect yourself while buying Mahatma Gandhi stamps or any stamps.

Hello Gandhi collectors,

One of the famous quotes of Mahatma Gandhi is

"The World is big enough for everyone’s needs – but it is too small for the GREED of one man!"
I am writing this for new Gandhi stamps collector so they know how is Gandhi's Philatelic world.

In past I bought some stamps from countries such as China, Isarel and I think I was cheated by them by paying very high price for some Gandhi stamps. At that time I was very new so I was not aware of what's going in Gandhi Philatelic world. But I learned from my mistake and I want to protect others so I am writing about this kind of activity.

Recently I saw Trinidad & Tobaga 1969 set of Gandhi stamp selling from South Korea. It was sold for $12 + shipping.

I am surpised by the price it sold because this is very common stamp and it is easily available in market on ebay india or delcampe.

It is easy to fool buyer that you are from other countries by just changing the address after opening a account( I did that to make sure!!) or when you travel you can open it from airport.!!

So never think seller is from China or Isarel or Japan or Korea or Australia or Newzealand or even USA.!!

Also there will be very less collector or dealer in China or Korea who has Mahatma Gandhi material so either they are supporting their friends or relatives from other part of world by shipping items for them.

Also this seller will take longer to ship as they have to send it to friend from that country or they ship will ship from their own countries.!!

Now let's see following sale of Gandhi stamps from Trinidad & Tobaga.

Seller:-nohjc2005 May-10-09 in Korea, South
Buyer:- sunilramesh Dec-20-05 in United States
Sold Price:- $12
Date Sold:- 4/13/2011

After researching more about this buyer he/she looks Indian(because of id name). I am not sure why this buyer did not look at India's ebay site. It is selling for around $4-5 or $2 on delcampe. So I am more surprised.!!

Another example is same buyer buying Gandhi Yemen stamp for $8. He/She was very eager to buy this stamp as he bidded 2 more bids even after he was leading in auction. Not sure what he was trying to do but my guess he is he really wants to pay more and make seller rich.!!! or wants other buyer to pay more.

Now let's see following sale of Gandhi stamps from Yemen. (Buyer & seller are same!!)

Seller:-nohjc2005 May-10-09 in Korea, South
Buyer:- sunilramesh Dec-20-05 in United States
Sold Price:- $8 ( winner put 2 more bids as so desperate to buy it.!!)
Date Sold:- 4/16/2011

I don't want new Gandhi collectors to go through this and want to quit collecting Gandhi Philatelic materials as it will be expensive in initial stage.

I think best think to avoid this kind of situation is try to buy it with FIXED Price item if the price is reasonable between 1-3 US dollars for any Gandhi stamps except 10Rupees Gandhi stamp from India issued in 1948 or Panama Gandhi stamp (30-50$).

Some Gandhi stamps with overprint(10-20$) are selling little bit higher but this is useless to make money by some particular dealer with multiple famous people on it and moon landing overprint. I have that stamps but I regert buying it.!!

My 2+ years experience tells that you can find Gandhi stamp between 1-3 dollars so don't pay more.

Before you bid research for price and don't just jump in. You will get another chance in future to buy it. As per Gandhiji "The World is big enough for everyone’s needs – but it is too small for the GREED of one man!"

So when the price is high (expensive) it needs to be make sure that you are not getting any facsimile, fake cancellation or getting ripped off by shill bidding  same way it's happening in Gandhi Stamps and Philatelic material.

Please read following series of my blog post  to understand what is going on stamp collecting world specially in Indian Philatelic materials.

1) 1948 Stamps False hope of Riches?
2) 1948 Gandhi Stamps: Are False hope of Riches - Part II ?
3) 1948 Gandhi Mourning Private FDC : Are False hope of Riches - Part III?
4) 1948 Expensive Gandhi FDC : Are False hope of Riches - Part IV?

Is this Real Panama Gandhi 1971 FDC or One more rubber stamp?

Hello Gandhi collector,

Recently we all saw Gandhi Panama FDC on ebay selling for 525 dollars, though no body bought it !!.

Also I had never seen it selling on ebay in last 2+ years or any reference in Gandhi Philatelic materials.

Do you think it's PANAMA Gandhi stamps first day cover is Genuine?

I don't think so. It's a way to make money.!!

But after doing more research on Panama FDC I am confused as I can't find any details of this FDC. So this is Real or one more Rubber stamp in Gandhi Philatelic world.!!

It was for sale by eBay seller "blue_guy_1234" from USA.

If anyone has more info about this FDC then please write a comment on this blog so all Gandhi collector will be aware of this.

If you want to read more about Panama Gandhi stamps then please check out following blog post.
1) What a price difference in Panama Gandhi stamps.
2) Panama Gandhi Cover with 3 stamps. Expensive Gandhi used cover.
3) Panama Gandhi stamp is highly inflated !! ?

If you ever buy this stamp for more then 10-20$( this is also expensive or you will inflate it.!!) then chances are you will quit Gandhi Philately, because it is too expensive as still there are lot of hidden Panama Gandhi stamps which will come in market in next 50 years and you will start loosing value instead of appreciating.  Let the dealer and reseller try to protect their Panama stamps and accumulate for us.!!

So do you think Panama Gandhi Stamps are highly inflated ? and chances are Scott Catalog will again modify it's catalog.!!

Thanks
Gandhi Stamps Club

Please read following series of my blog post  to understand what is going on stamp collecting world specially in Indian Philatelic materials and you will think it's all BOGUS.!! Yes it's all BOGUS.!!

BTW: I know most of you know about this but I am writing for future Gandhi collector so they can read & see this information which may be useful to them, otherwise it will be like 1969 Gandhi cancellation.!!

Reference of Mahatma Gandhi 1948 FDC from India with all 4 stamps sold on ebay

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Philatelist around the world consider 1948 10 Rupees Gandhi Stamp from India and FDC as investing item so I decided let's track and keep a good source for all current & new Gandhi Collectors. I am tracking Price, Buyer & Seller, Bidders on item etc of Mahatma Gandhi 1948 FDC with 10 Rupees stamp purchased from ebay/delcampe. It will be fun to see how price goes up and down as see ROI. Also this will serve as future reference for all Gandhi Collectors.

But in short, this all looks INFLATED prices.!! It's just a piece of paper!!

Also chance of FORGERY of 1948 Gandhi FDC is very high because it's very easy to make money by forged rubber stamps.

Surprised price of 1948 Gandhi FDC with single stamp of 1 1/2 anna & 3 1/2 anna.!!!!!!!!

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Recently I was surprised when 1948 single stamp from India of Mahatma Gandhi on FDC was sold for more than 50 dollars.!!

Gandhi Stamp INDIA 1948 FDC WITH 3 1/2 ANNA :
Seller: Mumbaistamps2 (1600+ feedback on ebay since Jul-22-05 from UAE )
Buyer: fredbettin (35000+ feedback on ebay, Member since: Oct-21-98 Location:USA)
Description: 1948 INDIA MAHATMA GANDHI 3 1/2 ANNA ON FDC TO USA
Date Sold: 2/8/2011

Now my question is why buyer's are paying this much money. It is cancelled from Calcutta which is not even hard to find like from Nepal or Pondicherry etc and both of them are FAKE or Forgery.

I can only see this is mailed to USA (so what) and also I don't see any arrival postmark cancel from USA.

So Why??

Also buyer of this cover has very high feedback and I see he is regular seller of Gandhi philatelic material on ebay. (Even I bought 1948 item once from this ebay seller/buyer (fredbettin)).
