Postal History : Cheating in Indian stamp collection ?

Hello Gandhi Philatelist,

Postal history is the study of postal systems and how they operate and, or, the study of postage stamps and covers and associated material illustrating historical episodes of postal systems.

I would like to add some more subject for postal history as world has changed and lot of cheating is going in stamp collection.
  • Study of forgery in stamps and philatelic material
  • Study of Shill Bidding in auction
  • Study of selling forgery as genuine
  • Study of second chance offer on eBay.
  • How to glorify philatelic material

Yesterday I saw 1948 First day cover with stamp from India of Gandhi was sold for $1500 on eBay by seller "ronsstamps" of California.

Do you really think that this FDC with stamps of India with Gandhi is worth $1500 ?

I DON'T think so.!!

Then do you think this transaction with stamps from India with Gandhi is BOGUS!!!

Yes, it's looks like price is   illegally increased  and highest bidder(winner) did not paid for this postal history philatelic material.!!

Also 2nd highest bidder even did not bought this postal history cover with stamps of India if he got second chance offer!!

So I got SECOND CHANCE offer from seller even though I was 3rd bidder with bidding of $810!!!

Mint stamps are selling sometimes more than this price.!!! And chances of getting FORGED 1948 Gandhi stamps from India is very LIKELY.!!

This is common practice in India stamp collection with British Indian Philatelic material with 1911 First Aerial Mail cancellation, King Edward stamps, King George Stamps and Queen Victoria stamps as well as 1948 Gandhi stamps were price is increased and than you get SECOND Chance offer.

Until now I might have got more than 50 second chance offer on Gandhi stamps of India  and I did not bought single of them.!!

Is this Cheating in Indian stamp collection ?

Following are two of the amazing SECOND Chance offer I got. Please read it so you know what kind of CHEATING happens in India stamps and Indian Philately material specially in Gandhi Philately.

1) NEPAL Embassy of India first day cover with 1948 Gandhi stamps of India were I got two second chance offer at different time from same seller and same postal history philatelic material.!!

2) COURVOISIER STAMPS FOLDER Gandhi with 1948 Stamps from India were I got second chance offer at 1/3rd price.!! 2100 Euros - $610 Euros!!!

http://www.ebay.de/itm/INDIA-1948-SCARCE-MAHATMA-GANDHI-COMPLETE-SET-ON-FIRST-DAY-COVER-/370880417264?nma=true&si=64dJIlGwbcfNYfjiT5xPRZm9Ds4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

This is postally used FDC with stamps of India from Calcutta to San Francisco, which did not have receiving cancellation so not sure whether it was officially travel to postal stream and address.

Also chances of having mulitple of this kind of item is rare so why second offer if eBay buyer "leadpsd" did not paid for this stamps of India FDC.

Following is the bidding detail were 8 bidders wants to buy this with total 14 bids.  (All information is available publicly from eBay by looking feedback, when you bid on items or doing research on eBay.!!)

p***p (27349) --> Winner is "leadpsd" (might did not paid to seller)
3***3(14) --> Loser ( don't know whether 2nd chance offer was given)
8***i(56) -->me.!! (got second chance offer).

Don't you think this is Cheating in Indian stamp collection ?

Do you think buyer paid to seller and seller paid all commission to eBay and PayPal?

Do you think there might be more second chance offer to 4th,5th, 6th,7th and 8th bidder ?

Reserve for this auction was set $1500, so you see eBay id "leadpsd" bidded  25 minutes before auction end for $1200, $1300 and $1500.

Amazing thing is that this is his first purchase in 4 years.!!!

I got second chance offer for $810.!! Which is almost 45% less.!!

So what do you think about actual price of this postal history first day cover.

$1500 or $810 or $9 !!

Actual price will be $9 if 8th bidder got second chance offer for this FDC with stamps from India !!

But chances of getting forged stamp with rubber stamp is very high when you get second chance offer because when cheating happen it happens everywhere.!!

We had seen lot of forgery in USED cover also and very expensive by SHILL bidding or not paying to seller.!!

Read my blog post about following BOGUS FORGED Gandhi stamps and philatelic cancellation with rubber stamp applied on piece of paper or envelope and trying to MAKE huge money instead of selling just MINT stamps.!!

Germany FAKE Cancellation :

Mauritius Gandhi stamp used on Indian cover with Early zipcode usage even before zipcode was introduce:

Early Usage cover of 1948 Gandhi stamps :

Gandhi SERVICE stamp BOGUS usage :

F0RGERY of rubber stamp with Red ink.!!!
Chances of correct ink cover might be in Museum or selling on eBay!!

Above are all bogus RUBBER stamps (which never exist) or forgery which will help future collectors whether they really want to start collecting stamps and philately as postal history or event covers.!!

My personal opinion is that when any expensive philatelic item from India there are more chances of forgery. Also it's not only India philatelic material but any expensive postal history or event cover philatelic material.!!

Now think what are chances of Forgery with  FACSIMILE or REPLICA stamp used on this postal history FDC.?

Now think what are chances of SHILL bidding ?

Now don't you think it's easy to sell forgery material by just applying rubber stamp on it ?

Now think why I got SECOND Chance offer ? even though I was 3rd last bidder!!

Now think how this is one way to Glorify postal history philatelic material ?

So what do you think now about  Cheating in Indian stamp collection ?

Thanks

Postal History - Event Covers

"In philately, the term cover pertains to the outside of an envelope or package with an address, typically with postage stamps that have been cancelled and is a term generally used among stamp and postal history collectors. , , The term does not include the contents of the letter or package, although they may add interest to the item if still present. Cover collecting plays an important role in postal history as many covers bear stamps, postmarks and other markings along with names and addresses all of which help to place a cover at a given time and place in history, , Event covers are decorated, stamped and canceled commemorative envelopes. They are created to celebrate an event or note an anniversary. (From Wikipedia)"

Recently I was researching about postal history and event covers as philatelic material with USED stamps of Gandhi from various countries and I was surprised by selling price even after 40+ years.

This Gandhi stamps used on cover as event covers or postal history were selling from 0.01 cents to $3.!!

Can't believe it. Don't know why such a low pricing for used event  cover or postal history. Also it's not rare anymore from UK, Russia, Greece, India, USA and Germany.

Following are screenshot you can look in detail and understand type of cover, value of cover etc. This is only for reference so you can see what kind of covers are available and what's price you need to pay for event covers or postal history.

To me used cover does not make sense to pay high price as there are very large quantity available and because of that you can have wide variety in your postal history collection, but you don't have to pay high price for this kind of events cover or postal history covers.

Of course you will find unique varieties of this event covers as well as postal history covers, which will be unique but make sure you don't pay HIGH price

So what do you think about pricing of  this USED covers.

To me it's a genuine price when it's between 0.01 cents to $3.

You need to make sure about pricing when you buy this kind of used cover and if you see it's expensive then chance of forgery  or SHILL bidding is possible.

British India stamps value : King Edward Stamps

Recently I saw King Edward Stamp with Round Table Conference and I was surprised by the price difference in just 34 days.

This King Edward Stamp on piece of paper (letterhead) with Round Table Conference cancellation was sold on following date.

July 21 it was sold for $1125.
August 25 it was sold for $159

Yes it's $159. so the difference is $966. Both were sold by same seller.!!

From the price difference do you think this is really a genuine philatelic material?

This philatelic material is also mentioned in Gandhi Handbook, but how can we trust Gandhi Handbook which has some misleading and false information of basic Gandhi's life.

So how we can find out true value of British India stamps.?

Or all this high price of British India stamp value  is INFLATED by various ways we are seen in Gandhi stamps selling pattern such as SHILL bidding, Not paying to seller etc.?

Why such a great difference of price in British India stamps?

How many quantity of similar British India King Edward stamp on piece of paper with this type of cancellation are out there ?

(to me it looks like unlimited because just print a paper and make rubber stamp and affix stamp.!!)

As per description "Wonderful example. Four KG V stamps tied by "INDIAN ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE * 17 NO 30" cds to a sheet of conference stationery. Great item for a thematic exhibit on the conference or on the life of Mahatma Gandhi."

I am not sure whether it's King Edward stamp or King George Stamp ?

To me it looks like King Edward stamp.!! So how come seller missed this kind of basic information while selling this kind of rare expensive King Edward philatelic material.!!

To me both of them look same after looking above images. Not sure whether first one was really sold at $1125.!!

This King Edward stamp philatelic material was purchased by eBay id  "suratphilatelist" for $158.!!! Another bidder was rthaper(370)

If you look at following image and notice about bidders active you will be surprised. Why other bidders who bidded  high price did not have any interest when it was again  for resale.!!

$1125 ---> e**b(52) --> Winner did not paid.
$1100 ---> h***t(1935)  --> posthost
$1050 ----->8***i(56)
$100 -$1000 ---->l***a(195)   ---> echobangla
$110-$1000 ----> e***b(52)
$99 --> 2***n(724)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/INDIAN-ROUND-TABLE-CONFERENCE-GANDHI-SOUVENIR-1930-D426-/380678459813?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58a23451a5&nma=true&si=VxM8ArIlqOS27
ZILWBFFZTxPBSE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

So what happen to all other bidders who bidded upto $1000.

h***t(1921) ---> $1100  ( eBay id "posthost")
8***i(56)   ----> $1050
i***a(195) ----> $1000

Are this bidder not interested anymore.!!! or it's just another GLORIFICATION of Gandhi philatelic material with King Edward stamp, by just increasing price to glorify this Round Table Conference rubber stamp !!

I think so.!! What do you think ?

If you take a look closely buyer e***b(49) bidded for this item from $110 to $1000 in order to win this auction from i**a(195) who bidded from $107.!!

So this 2 bidder increased price in order to win.!!

Not sure whether this was indeed genuine transaction were all paypal and eBay fees were paid by seller or it was a bogus transaction were buyer did not paid and seller cancelled the transaction and got eBay refund for it's fees paid.!!

In past I wrote multiple blog post about how easy it is to make this kind of RUBBER stamp and apply it on any envelope or letterhead or International Reply coupon or receipt.!!

Following is example how to make rubber stamp on www.rubberstamp.net

British India King Edward stamp on International Reply Coupon

Art of Making Money : Philately Greed
http://gandhistampsclub.blogspot.com/2013/01/art-of-making-money-philately-greed.html

Now you decide whether is Genuine or Forgery or Bogus and what is the real value of this kind of cancellation.

I don't have this in my collection because to me it looks only FORGERY is available or chances of BOGUS (not officially issued) are very high as who knows what happen in 1930.!!

We saw what happen in 2009 from Winnenden Germany even with Gandhi philatelic popularity, so chance of BOGUS is very very high.

When it comes to any British India stamps and Philatelic material I always stay away including any Mahatma Gandhi's Life.

It's your money, so you need to decide.

Following are some more blog post written by me, which might also help.

1) Is GANDHI stamp collection hobby a SCAM?

I am not expert and I am in this hobby for 4 years only so you don't have to believe me or trust me. But you can think about it.

First Aerial Post : India 1911 World 1st AERIAL POST ALLAHABAD

Hello Philatelist,

Recently I saw India 1911 World's 1st AERIAL POST ALLAHABAD from a new eBay seller from SPAIN  "mbstang" with only 11 feedback and account open in 2013.!!

Can you believe that a seller with such a low feedback just started selling this kind of rare and expensive philatelic material. ?

Do you think he/she is selling someone's else material or it's a new eBay id opened by experienced seller.!!

I generally don't buy from low feedback and new eBay  seller but chances of getting forgery item is very high because there is no credit and seller can open new accounts as many as they want on eBay and start selling their stuff.!!

This philatelic material (special cancellation) India stamp first aerial post 1911 Allahabad Naini was sold for $1526 to USA buyer "mrsumpra" which is also new buyer who opened account in 2013 with only 28 feedback.!!

By buying with new id you can hide your original id or want to hide your previous buying/selling pattern.

Currently I don't see buyers I used to see who were bidding to increase price such as "hitlerandgandhi"  or not paying seller to glorify material by increasing price, so it's very hard to believe.!!

This are not rare cancellation of first aerial mail from Allahabad as they are available in HUGE large quantity. In past 3 years I had seen more than 200+ still in good condition with bright cancellation even after 100+ years.

No affect of fading ink on this cancellation and full detail without missing any part of cancellation and still intake after 100+ years even though paper and stamp looks old.!!

Do you really think this is genuine transaction ?

What I mean by genuine transaction?

This means that buyer paid to seller and seller paid to eBay and indeed eBay shareholder will get benefit of this transaction.!!

Looking to feedback by seller it looks like Genuine transaction.!!

Do you really think this is Genuine cancellation ?

This means that in 1911 it was applied proper postage with all registration charges ?

I don't think so because at that time registration charges were eight annas and this cover with 1911 first aerial cancellation has only four annas.!!

So does this mean that this was not actual flown in first aerial flight.!!

or this is also FORGERY like with we saw with red color ink and maker of previous forged cover  might have correct magenta ink after wards.!!

F0RGERY of rubber stamp with Red ink.!!!
Chances of correct ink cover might be in Museum or selling on eBay!!

YES, above postmark is a Rubber stamp.!! It's not postmark.

Bye the way if there is any original then also it's not postmark because it has no date.!!. It's a CACHET.

Click following link to read about "INDIAN Philately EXPOSED - Part III" to know more about reddish ink first aerial mail.!!

On eBay you can find out all information about buyer and seller using feedback, what they buy, when they buy, from whom they buy, what price they buy, what else they sell or sold etc.

You might be wondering what to with Philatelic ?

It has lot to do with Philatelic, because you need to authenticate your material, pricing etc so you are not cheated.

This is more work than just bidding and paying it.!!

There are 3 more similar item available on eBay, but what are chances of this items selling by one person with different eBay account. Do you think It's possible.?

Also after looking feedback of all 3 eBay seller looks like they know each other as they had done business in past.!!

Also looks like they sell similar items such as Gandhi 1948 philatelic material, First Aerial Mail and also some technology books printed in India and selling to foreign buyers.!!!

So what do you think about seller of World First Aerial Post India 1911 ALLAHABAD ?

In past we had seen lot of forgery cancellation of first aerial post from Allahabad. So what are chances of this as forgery.!!

Also in past I wrote blog post about this India 1911 World's 1st AERIAL POST ALLAHABAD and you can click following link to read it and you decide what's going in First Aerial Mail.!!

My personal opinion is that when any expensive philatelic item from India there are more chances of forgery. Also it's not only India philatelic material but any expensive philatelic material.!!

Read my blog post about following BOGUS FORGED Gandhi stamps and philatelic cancellation with rubber stamp applied on piece of paper or envelope and trying to MAKE huge money instead of selling just MINT stamps.!!

Above are all bogus RUBBER stamps (which never exist) or forgery which will help future collectors whether they really want to start collecting stamps and philately.!!

Don't you think chances of first aerial mail also is rubber stamp similiar to above cancellation.!!

We had seen this lot in Gandhi Philatelic material such as

1) Round table cancellation from England
2) Gandhi SERVICE stamp envelope
3) Gandhi SERVICE stamp on piece of paper with Governor General cancellation.
4) 1948 Gandhi 10 Rupees Stamp (only Gandhi stamp is forged.!!)
5) 1948 Gandhi First Day cover
6) 1948 Gandhi  stamp Folders from Swiss Courvoisier Printing press folder or special leather folder with Emblem of India !!

So now you decide whether this four anna King Edward  India stamp with special cancellation of first aerial mail from Allahabad to Naini is GENUINE or FORGED.

You already might know but let me make sure that I am not EXPERT in First Aerial Mail or any other philatelic collection as I am collecting since last  4+years.

But I have gain enough knowledge about buying, selling pattern on eBay and different types of forgery, bogus Gandhi philatelic material which I am comparing and with other philatelic material, which looks complete identical.!!

My personal opinion it's FORGERY, because it does not make sense.!! Again it's my personal opinion after looking everything such as
  • new seller
  • new buyer
  • other forged 1911 first aerial mail
  • lot of similarities between forged Gandhi philately material and First Aerial mail.
  • sheer quantity available after 100+ years as if it's printing press out there.
  • very good quality of first aerial mail with bright ink and complete cachet
  • pricing is attempting to make rubber stamps
But you have to think and decide about 1911 First aerial mail post from Allahabad-Naini as you will be spending $1500 for piece of paper.!!

Thanks

King George stamps : KG V stamps : Do you really think it's Genuine ?

Hello Philatelist,

Recently I saw India Round Table Conference Souvenir stamp cancellation collection selling on eBay from eBay. It's not a envelope but it's on piece of big paper (letter head).

As per description "Wonderful example. Four KG V stamps tied by "INDIAN ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE * 17 NO 30" cds to a sheet of conference stationery. Great item for a thematic exhibit on the conference or on the life of Mahatma Gandhi."

It's not a King George stamps but it's King Edward stamps.!!

My personal opinion  for special cancellation as RUBBER stamp (artwork for kids).!! Because it's very easy to make and collectors will buy it.!!

Just buy some old King George stamps and make rubber stamp and apply on any piece of paper or envelope and you have a souvenir ready.!!

Also chances of having  forgery King George stamps is also very high because we cannot trust British India stamps.!!

Reason for cheating is that it's very hard to find details of this kind of very old cancellation as no one knows in real what happen 80-90 years ago.

And even if it genuine than it's very hard to get good quality of paper, ink etc because printing and ink quality was not great which can sustain all kind of atmospheric condition such as sunlight, rain, wind, type of storage etc. Also there are lot of other factors to be consider.

So to me all this special cancellation postmark looks as artwork rubber stamp.!!

Also I had seen lot of BOGUS and forgery rubber stamp in Gandhi collection so it's not that hard to believe that it's possible.

Even bogus postmark special cancellation can win medal.!!! Because philatelic judges also thinks it's genuine.!! Judges don't go out and research on their own and they depend on some kind of philatelic handbook, which might have false or misleading information about that cancellation.

Even you might see this kind of bogus or forgery postmark in philatelic museum also!!

It's nothing but glorification!! You need to know how to play this game.!!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/INDIAN-ROUND-TABLE-CONFERENCE-GANDHI-SOUVENIR-1930-D426-/360721418618?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53fcac097a

So think 1930 rubber stamp which is circular and only one language and similiar alphabets and numbers. So it's not hard to make it. I had shown this in my previous blog post about Round table conference.

Following are my blog post about Round-Table Conference rubber stamp (cancellation).

I am not sure how a collector can know whether this is GENUINE or BOGUS or FORGERY.
Reason for this kind of questions is because chance are that this was bogus to begin with.!! Bogus means it was not officially issued.!!

Think it as 2009 Special Cancellation issued on October 2nd to celebrate International Day of Non-Violence from Winneden Germany, which was Bogus.

This 2009 rubber stamp was more complicated because of
  • multiple language, type and size of alphabets and numbers
  • Image of Gandhi and Emblem of India.
Even though following cancellation was Bogus (never issued by Germany postal service), philatelist won medal with that cancellation for exhibiting it.!!  So an art work can win medal also.!!

So what are chance of something like that for Indian Round-Table conference Gandhi Souvenir special cancellation.

Even if it was indeed genuine cancellation than also it's very easy to make this kind of rubber stamp and put it on piece of letter head.

It's complicate and required lot of research (own research) as you cannot believe any philatelic handbook because chance of getting this forgery or bogus is also high as author also relies on other philatelist to get this unique cancellation. If they don't use other philatelist then chance are they might not have philatelic material to write handbook.!!

This is also mentioned in Gandhi Handbook, but after my in depth research and finding misleading information about some basic information of Mahatma Gandhi's life, I started disregarding this Gandhi Handbook, because it's a collection of philatelic material from various collectors so it's very hard to authenticate and forgeries or bogus might have gone into it.

http://gandhistampsclub.blogspot.com/2013/08/gandhi-handbook.html

So don't you see similarity with Gandhi Philately material.!! Following cancellation  are some of the  FAKE or FORGED special cancellation, postmark cancellation or local post office cancellation. It's just a RUBBER STAMP which my kids use to play to make art work.!! such as butterflies, rainbow, animals, etc.!!

So what do you think about this ROUND TABLE-CONFERENCE Souvenir stamp cancellation which is even older than all of the above Forgery or Bogus rubber stamps.!!

Is it Genuine?

Is it Forgery?

Is it Bogus?

It's up to you to decide after reading all my research blog post or you can believe Gandhi Handbook or yourself.

Now I always trust myself after seeing all this forgeries and bogus philatelic material trying to go in my collection after all kind of different glorification method.

But to me I think my research has depth of comparison and possibilities (not just images with little description) when I am comparing with other thematic material, so I will never WASTE my money.!!

I am not telling this is forgery or Bogus. You have to find it because it's your money and it's up to you how you want to spend it.!!

Thanks
