CHILE GANDHI STAMPS : Are stamp sheet collection worthless ?

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

I was looking some of my screenshot collection and I saw  Chile Gandhi Stamp Sheet of 50 Stamps sold for only $9.!!! which means only 18 cents for one which is below face value someone paid 40+ years.!!

Do you think stamp collecting hobby is declining.?

To me it looks like it as complete stamp sheet after 40+ years is selling under $9 even Gandhi Philately is one of the most popular theme for collectors.

Even Chile Soccer World Cup First Flight Cover with Gandhi stamps are selling at very low price.

1) Chile First Flight cover with Gandhi stamps value is declining.!!
2) Chile Overprint stamp First Flight Cover of World cup soccer 1974 is also declining.!!

Also  India economy is booming since  last 10 years and I read all the time that because of this economy boom people are investing in Gandhi stamps (like Washington stamp of USA!!), but after seeing this kind trend of pricing in Gandhi Philately  I don't think so.

To me it's just marketing to involved more people by trying to misguide them instead of promoting by guiding them as hobby instead of investment.!!

I am not sure that after 40+ years this stamp sheet was sold at very low price.  What do you think about such a low price ?

According to me this low price is because

1) Overall stamp collecting hobby is declining including Gandhi Philately.
2) I don't see any importance of complete sheet in stamp exhibition.
3) Also it is not easy to store and even display in exhibition and difficult to store in album.!!
4) Even shipping of this stamp is difficult as it will require big packet and also chance of getting damage in shipping is very high.
6) Collectors are loosing interest because of all kind of SCAM in philatelic hobby ("Philatelic Game!!")
7) Fake or questionable special cancellation are selling in plenty.!!

But I think main reason is that this are not unique or genuine error stamp sheet which will create a value in future. I understand some unique cancellation with specific date or unique postoffice cancellation or unique street name related to your thematic collection but stamp sheet is just boring to collect.

I have 2-3 stamp sheet in my collection which I bought it long time back, but I am not going to invest any more unless it's very cheap like this Chile Gandhi sheet.!!!

In past I had seen stamp sheet from Morocco, Ireland etc selling for very low price. Following are my blog post of other Gandhi stamp sheets.

Don't you think stamp sheet are worthless to collect ?

I think so !!

Even though I have 3-4 different sheets from Germany, Mexico, Chile, India.!! (It was purchased 2 years ago when I was not aware of all this !!)

Gandhi Stamp Sheet value : Gandhi Ireland stamp sheet : Is Gandhi Stamps price not appreciating at all and it's declining.!!

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Recently on ebay two Gandhi Ireland Stamp Sheets of 120 stamps each was sold for $42!!!(27 UK Pounds).

In past we have seen stamp sheet of Gandhi stamps selling for very low price. Malta Stamp sheet of 60 stamps was sold for $12 and two Morocco Gandhi sheet with 50 stamps was sold for $80.(Click link to read blog post about Malta and Morocco Stamp Sheet with Gandhi Stamps.)

I think because of sheet in stamps it got $42 (18 cents per stamp set (2 stamps)) other wise it might be less. In December 2011 single stamp set(of 2 stamps) was sold for 0.01 Euro.!!! Check out my blog post about this by clicking following link.

So to all collectors there are enough Gandhi Stamps for everyone. So don't just buy blindly as if Gandhi Stamps price will go up very fast and will get good return on investment.

Think after 43 years Gandhi stamps are still available at very nominal price. I think collector who had this stamp for 43 years did not have good ROI except enjoyment of keeping in very safely, nicely and with worried of getting damaged by water, fire, weather etc.!!!

In future you might see this  stamp sheet selling on ebay or delcampe as sheet or  in block of 4 or with gutter margin etc.!!

This is for reference for future new Gandhi Stamp Collectors, so they know what was pricing of this stamps in 2011 even after 40+ years!!

Belgium Gandhi Stamps : Can't believe the pricing of this 1999 stamp sheet of Gandhi with Kennedy, MLK, Nelson Mandela, Lenin, Guevara, Golda Meir, Jesse Owens, Football, Bicycling, Tim and Struppi stamps from Belgium.

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a federal state in Western Europe. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts the EU's headquarters, and those of several other major international organisations such as NATO.

Straddling the cultural boundary between Germanic and Latin Europe, Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers, mostly Flemish (about 60%), and the French-speakers, mostly Walloons (about 40%), plus a small group of German-speakers. Belgium's two largest regions are the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in the north and the French-speaking southern region of Wallonia. Belgium issued  first Gandhi stamps with Euro as it's currency.

In 1999 Belgium issued stamp sheet of 20 stamps each 0.42 euros. That means that it's price is 8.40 Euros.

Recently I saw above sheet sold under face value, for 6.50 Euros.!!!  This means that each stamp is 0.33 euros.!! So after 12+ years it's price has gone down instead of any appreciation even after keeping in safe storage.

This sheet has Gandhi stamp along with other 19 stamps  of Pope Johannes XXII., King Boudewijn., Willy Brandt., John F. Kennedy.,  Martin Luther King., Vladimir Lenin., Ernesto 'CHE' Guevara., Golda Meir., Nelson Mandela., Jesse Owens., Football., Bicycling Eddy Merckx., (female) singer Edith Piaf., Pop and Rock music the Beatles., film/movie Charley Chaplin., Tourism beach and holidays., Scouting., Comics., Tim  and Struppi von Hergé., philately stamp & magnifying-glass.

After looking at this price Do you think stamp hobby is dead.!! This sheet is not even from very small countries who makes money on stamps like Aland, Sao Tome, Nevis etc and still value is going lower then it's original value.

Is it worth to collect Gandhi stamp sheet?

If you see stamps are not even selling or selling like 5-10 times lower their value than mentioned in catalog.!!

There is nothing RARE or Scare in philately because this hobby is in downward trend because experienced collectors are loosing interest because value is not appreciating and new collectors are not coming in to this because there are lot of other things to do for them such as playing video games on Nintendo or X-box , social networking on facebook or google+ or  surfing on web through internet or SMS through iphone or android or watch games such as cricket, football or basketball.!!

Only way philately can sustain is to stop cheating in this hobby. Yes CHEATING.!! which is what you will see in order to increase value artificially by inflating the price by SHILL bidding, not paying to seller or mutual understanding cancelling transaction and lot more.

Morocco Gandhi Stamp Sheet - Is it worth for collection or investment.!!

Hello Gandhi Collectors,

I am not sure what interest it makes to collect stamp sheet. Reason for this is it will required special care for sheet you collect and  it will not fit in any standard philatelic album and it also cost higher than regular stamps.

Look at following example of Morocco Gandhi stamp sheet. It was sold for 60 euros. But now collector or reseller needs to keep it in specially space. Also it cost more for shipping and also it's pain to store and to display also.!!

And that's the reason after 40+ years it is selling around 60 euros for this stamp sheet of 50 stamps.!!

Think about all this stuff before you buy Gandhi Stamp sheet.
