King Edward Stamps KEDVII : Are OVERPRINT stamps easy to FORGED?

 Hello Gandhi Collectors,

As all of you are aware that British India stamps were used by small Indian states(kings) by overprinting there state name on it.
But recently I saw King Edward stamp issued during British India or British Commonwealth period which was Error Overprint stamp (OVPT stamp).

Instead of "Patiala state" it was printed as "Patiaea state".!!

Don't you think it's easy to print (overprint) and make lot of money.!! If you try to sell just regular stamp of KED VII or King Edward stamps, there will be no buyer.

But if you just overprint with some Indian state name on it and make it an error you can ask for $4600+.!!, and hope some idiot out there will buy it.!!

I am not sure whether this is Genuine or Forgery. Also I am not expert, I am only expressing my view what are the possibilities in stamps collection, so it's up to buyer to decide as they have to pay money.!!

It's very hard to trust anyone.!! Even BPA and RPSL expert certification are Forged by reusing it by forging certificate.!!! ( Click following link to read my blog post to understand your chances of getting Forged.!!)

In past we have seen forgery of King George stamps, King Edward Stamps and Queen Victoria stamps from various countries so this is nothing new in British India stamps.

Now you will be thinking what to do with Gandhi stamps and this Overprint stamps?

But lot of things are similar with Gandhi stamps collection so you need to aware of this kind of things and compare it before you buy.

Following is Gandhi Overprint stamp from India which is FORGERY selling as facsimile.  Not only overprint on stamp is forged, but the stamp itself is forged.!!

It was sold under $2!! (If it was genuine it will sold for $200,000!!)

But we have seen lot of Forgery in Gandhi Overprint stamps, so this does not surprise me. We have seen Forgery in Gandhi SERVICE overprint stamp, Gandhi SERVICE overprint inverted (officially FORGED by seller) and lot more.

Recently I wrote about Error in Gandhi Service Overprint stamp.!!  SERVICE was printed in reverse. You can read more about this by clicking following link.

You can read more about this in my following blog post in this blog.

1) Gandhi SERVICE overprint stamp price fell from $1009 to $1.!!
2) How can you tell that Gandhi SERVICE stamp is FAKE or Forgery ?
3) Maryland forgery of Gandhi SERVICE stamp is $450. Is it shill bidding?
4) Gandhi SERVICE stamp on piece of paper with SUNDAY cancellation !!! ?
5) Most Expensive Stamp.

So I am not sure what dealer/printer/seller think about collectors (buyer)!!
  • Do collector just buy it blindly without any research.!!
  • Don't seller know philately is hobby of smart people!!
  • Seller think they are smarter than collector.!!
So beware what are you collecting.

So you need to think always before you buy otherwise you will regret.

To me at the end it will be JUST PIECE OF PAPER.!!

If you have money to throw away then start collecting  British India Stamps, India Stamps, 1948 Gandhi Stamps and Philatelic material and you will have a PIECE of PAPER (with no peace of mind.!!).

Still cannot decide then read following blog post which might help you.

Still not decided then my opinion is AVOID it all the cost.!! and have peace of mind instead of worrying you are buying Genuine material.!!!

To me all Gandhi Philatelic material available ( specially before 1950) looks FAKE or Forgery as it is very hard to find Genuine stuff and as new collectors (like me) wants to collect, so some greedy experienced collectors/dealers will provide  all of us as well as experienced collectors.!!

Still want to do research  then please read my other blog post and have fun.!!
